AI agent orchestrates IoT fleet firmware rollouts

You can now deploy an AI agent that autonomously plans firmware deployment waves, schedules around device-specific production windows, monitors rollout health via AWS IoT Core device shadows and telemetry, and triggers automatic rollback based on failure type rather than relying on manual wave planning and static percentage-based thresholds. This builds on AWS IoT Jobs for firmware delivery, adding failure-type reasoning (distinguishing transient issues like connectivity loss from permanent ones like boot-loops) on top of the percentage-based cancellation AWS IoT Jobs already provides natively.

Matters for: Fleet operations teams managing thousands of IoT devices across multiple facilities, timezones, and production schedules.

Stratasys builds edge-to-cloud IoT platform on AWS IoT Core

Stratasys used AWS IoT Core paired with AWS IoT Greengrass to build the GrabCAD IoT Platform, giving customers real-time bidirectional MQTT communication, Device Shadows for offline state tracking, and over-the-air updates across distributed 3D printer fleets. AWS IoT Core's rules engine combined with Amazon Data Firehose feeds normalized MTConnect printer data into an S3 data lake, enabling analytics, compliance, and future machine learning use cases that were not previously possible with fragmented, site-siloed data collection.

Matters for: This matters for manufacturers operating industrial 3D printer fleets across multiple sites who need OT/IT network segmentation, remote fleet monitoring, and integration with MES and ERP systems.

AWS IoT Core adds point-to-point direct messaging API

AWS IoT Core now offers a SendDirectMessage HTTP API that routes messages directly to a device by MQTT client ID, bypassing topic subscription and fan-out, and can return true delivery confirmation via MQTT QoS 1 PUBACK or immediate 404 if the device is offline. This lowers cost versus Pub-Sub for one-to-one patterns by billing a single Direct Message operation instead of separate publish-in/out/ack operations, and requires no device-side changes since messages use the existing MQTT connection.

Matters for: Engineers building server-to-device command flows for connected products like smart appliances, payment devices, or vehicles that need per-device delivery confirmation and lower messaging costs at high volume.
